Today we're very very pleased to announce that the Radar app for iPhone and iPod Touch is available for free download in the app store.

We've spent the last two years building the best possible mobile browsing and commenting features for mobile phones of all types, and we've put everything we've learned into this app.

The iPhone is in many ways the ideal platform for Radar: a large, juicy screen, (usually) fast network speeds, and interaction like no other device out there. It's been a joy developing our first iPhone app, and we hope you'll enjoy using it.

As always, our focus is on enabling you to instantly share what you're doing with your friends, and to actively drive conversation--not just occasional comments--around the things you're sharing.

Here's what else you can expect:

Sharing

  • direct upload of iPhone pictures, either from the camera or from your photo library
  • complete control over who sees your posts: mark any picture as 'friends only' or 'public', and allow or block individuals or groups on any post
  • Twitter integration, to instantly share your public pictures as Twitter updates: the easiest way to share pictures on Twitter and enable conversation
  • video playback
  • public profiles for sharing your posts with the world and making new friends

Browsing and commenting
  • MyRadar: an ongoing stream of pictures and videos shared by you and your friends, available from your iPhone and your PC
  • sorting by latest posts or latest comments, so you can quickly stay on top of what your friends are doing and saying
  • whispers, for when you want to comment privately
  • 'like' any post and keep track of how many people have viewed and commented on your pictures
  • real-time text and email alerts to help you stay on top of conversations as they happen
  • daily content feeds from partners like College Humor, Vimeo, Sodahead, and more are available in the Radar Gallery

Performance
  • advanced caching, so you can get started quickly when you launch the app
  • progressive download of content for fast browsing and commenting, even when network speeds are slow

Enjoy, and let us know what you think. We're already hard at work on the next version.

I am waiting patiently for the G1 / Android app. Something basic will suffice, I am willing to be a test guinea pig.

I love radar and would really like it even better if you would do a G1 app.
