Some exciting news for Radar users in the United States: we've finished rolling out text message updates for most of the large carriers in this country. (We hope to offer this feature elsewhere soon, so stay tuned, international users.)

Text Alerts

If you're on T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, Virgin Mobile, Boost Mobile, Alltel, Nextel or Cellular One, you can now receive live text message updates whenever something important happens on your Radar. And you choose what's 'important'; we support text alerts for any of the following actions:

-when we receive your posts
-when your friends post
-when anyone comments on your posts
-when someone replies to a comment you left
-when anyone mentions you in a comment
-when you receive a friend request
-when someone accepts your friend request
-when someone shares a post with you privately

Where appropriate, these text alerts include a link to the content on the Radar mobile site.

Getting started

To turn on text alerts, text the word 'start' to 74273 (which spells 'SHARE' on your phone's keypad). We'll walk you through the rest.

You can choose which actions you want alerts for on the Text Alerts Setting page. You'll probably want to control the flow of these alerts as well, so we've given you time settings and a daily limit.

Also, in keeping with guidelines from our carrier partners, when you reach 30 text updates in a month we'll let you know and pause the alerts until you confirm you want them to continue.

There's a fine line between staying updated and being inundated, so configure this to match your needs, and adjust anytime as your Radar world grows.

Bonus features

Once you've set up text alerts, you can text the word 'invite' to SHARE and we'll send you back a text invite that you can forward to friends you want to invite.

And finally, anyone on a supported carrier can simply text the word 'join' to SHARE and we'll walk them through signing up for Radar.

its the text alert free of charge

that's a good question buttercup26. Radar doesn't charge anything for the Text Alerts, but your standard carrier chargers will apply. you may want to look into getting a text message plan.
